Parents feel like there’s an invisible thread that makes us and our children connected. We know the reason when they raise their eyebrows or throw tantrums. We memorize every mole and birthmark they have and the food they want and don’t. When kids are unusually silent, there’s an alert that is being sent to the brain, “CHECK THE KIDS! I REPEAT! CHECK THE KIDS RIGHT NOW!” Only to find out that they spilled your perfume or used your favorite lipstick to make a wall masterpiece. Maybe it’s their way to say I love you. Haha.
Have you ever tried to ask your children sets of questions to get to know them better? They give you funny but honest answers (read: real talk) I tried it on my daughter last Tuesday and it was FUN! There! Just when I thought I know my daughter well, she surprised me when she answered about Jesus, our family, and having a baby brother. She has been an only child for almost 7 years before I had my youngest. Thank God she did not give us a headache by feeling jealous of Z. And now I understand why she’s excited to catch Superbook every Sunday. I look forward to repeat this kind of activity with my daughter to know her dreams, plans, fears, and to assure her that I got her back.
(She answered in our language and I translated it to English)

This is a wonderful post and I’m going to ask my grandchildren the questions. Your daughter is amazing, but you know that! I, too, am in awe of her answer about Jesus turning sinners into good people! She is going to be someone to know as an adult!
